BATTERY LANE ALLOTMENT ASSOCIATION – COMMITTEE RE-ELECTION

 Chairman – Mike Adams

I have been a member of the Allotment Association for 22 years, and have been Chairperson for over 10 years.

I have been actively involved in the establishment of the car parks, plots for people with disabilities, and the 2 woodland areas.

In recent years, I have planted a wildflower garden on the site and have planted wild flowers and perennials on Battery Lane and on the verges of the road to the gate.

Recently, I have maintained the top car park by cutting grass and brambles.

At meetings, I have tried to conduct the proceedings in an orderly manner, and have encouraged all members to be involved in decision making.

In the rare event when there has been a dispute among members, I have listened, and on most occasions have brought about a successful result.

I have always tried to establish and maintain links with the Parish Council and the Clerk to the Council.

 My future plans are-

1. Make improvements to the access road.

2. Get more volunteers to help on maintenance.

3. Make our site an area where members can feel stress free and safe and happy while on the site.

Secretary – Carey Randall

I am the main liaison with the Parish Council and conduct regular site inspections with the Council Clerk

I organize the committee meetings and the AGM, take and distribute the minutes and chase up the progress of any actions arising

I organize the annual Best Plot competition

I am regularly on site and make myself available to the members to answer any questions and try to resolve any issues that may arise

I organize the Kings Seed ordering and deliver the seed parcels when they arrive

I keep the membership records and other relevant correspondence

I am administrator for the Members’ WhatsApp group

Treasurer – Chris Ratcliffe

Health and Safety Officer – Tony Bishop

My committee role is that of health and safety officer.

In this role I prepare documents relating to site health and safety issues to include risk assessments and operating procedures.

Site Maintenance Manager – Roy Tongue

I co-ordinate the volunteers to keep the public areas of the site clear of weeds, which includes mowing the grass along the access roads, spraying weed killer as necessary and trimming back the boundary hedges.

Machine maintenance as required

Borough Council Liaison – Ken Bullock

I wish to put my name forward for re-election to the BLAA committee. As Borough Council Liaison I have been involved with Parish Council and the Borough Council to have the access track to the Allotments repaired.  It has taken 18 months but the Borough Council has now agreed to pay for the repairs and have instructed Tarmacadam to carry out the work. Hopefully, this will be done sooner rather than later and I would like to remain on the Committee to see this through to its completion

Committee Member – Ann Bishop

To liaise with Dave Pendleton and people who live locally about plot allocation, putting names on waiting list etc.

To liaise with Jane regarding any issues with horses that are kept next to the site.

To support other community members when needed.

To take actions from committee meetings where I think I can make a positive contribution

To assist with site Health and Safety matters

Committee Member – Joe Chamberlain

I help to maintain the public access areas of the site.  I am always on hand to perform whatever work may be required in assisting members who may be having trouble with cultivating their plots due to illness etc.  I attend as many of the committee meetings as possible and am always ready to volunteer for whatever actions may be required.

Committee Member – Steve McNichols

If there’s no objections, I'm willing to stay on.

For a resume. I attend meetings when able, listen to what's going on. Occasionally comment or offer suggestions.

 Committee Member – Derek Watson

I have been a member of the committee since its inception, I will stand down if someone is keen to join. Otherwise, I will carry on. I have 50 years’ experience a chemistry degree and a two year horticultural course and have helped many working groups.

I am slowly getting better and will resume cultivation of the plot shortly.
